Noe Valley parklet construction under way

Construction of the long-awaited “parklet” in the Noe Valley neighborhood has finally begun.

The parklet is part of The City’s “Parks to Pavement” project, which turns unused concrete in to usable open space. Work began on the 24th Street parklet Tuesday.

The street will feature new benches, planters and landscaping near the curb to still allow for traffic to pass through.

The neighborhood has had heated debates with The City over converting unused space, including an underused parking lot and an intersection, into parks.

Seven total spaces – including parklets and larger plazas – have been converted to open space under the Parks to Pavement program.
