Nobody guilty in death of Russian whistle-blower

WHAT: The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office declared police official Oleg Silichenko innocent of wrongdoing in the death of whistle-blower Sergei Magnitsky, who was imprisoned without medical treatment until he died of heart failure.

WHY: Silichenko had ordered Magnitsky arrested and held for trial without bail after the 37-year-old lawyer accused him of running a $230 million tax-rebate fraud together with a group of other senior detectives.

WHAT'S BEING DONE: Silichenko has been promoted and put in charge of a new follow-up investigation into the Magnitsky case.
