No criminal charges will be filed in connection with the death of a Chinese student who was hit by a San Francisco Fire Department truck following the July crash of an Asiana Airlines flight at San Francisco International Airport.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe announced today there was “no criminal culpability for any individual involved in the response to the airline crash.”
Ye Meng Yuan, 16, was hit by at least one San Francisco fire truck and killed near the wreckage of the July 6 crash. Ye was covered in fire retardant foam when she was run over.
The determination not to file charges followed a review of reports from police, fire and other first-responders related to the crash of Asiana Airline Flight 214, Wagstaffe said.
He added, “The remarkable efforts of the San Francisco firefighters and police officers in responding to this very chaotic scene and in attempting to save hundreds of lives while exposing themselves to potentially life-threatening circumstances were considered in our review.”
