IndyCar driver J.R. Hildebrand, a Sausalito native, will pay a visit to 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara on Thursday, where he will show off the team-themed paint scheme for his No. 4 car.

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh is a co-owner of Panther Racing, which has the No. 4 National Guard car in Sunday’s GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. The car will be painted scarlet and gold, with the familiar 49ers logo on the rear wing.

The No. 4 is in honor of Harbaugh, who wore that jersey when he played for the Indianapolis Colts. Hildebrand’s fire suit will also be 49ers-themed.

“It was pretty cool to see how much [Harbaugh] knows about IndyCar racing and that he was totally up to speed on what was going on at Panther,” Hildebrand told USA Today. “You don’t have to be around him long to understand why these guys love playing for him and why they were able to have the success they did last year.” — Staff report
