Newsom Tracker: Silent treatment persists

Mayor Gavin Newsom has been giving the media the silent treatment for 10 days now, and doesn’t appear ready to end that streak today.

The mayor has yet to speak to the press or appear at a city event since he dropped out of the 2010 governor’s race on Oct. 30. Today will not see a break in that trend, spokesman Nathan Ballard said.

Newsom is at work in City Hall, Ballard said. This afternoon, he will convene a 3 p.m. meeting with parties of the hotel labor dispute.

The dispute involves a union representing thousands of workers at 61 San Francisco hotels. Last week, the first of many strikes threatening to deal a blow to The City’s economy involved 300 workers at the Grand Hyatt Union Square.

Newsom flew back from a vacation in Hawaii to address the worsening labor dispute, Steve Kawa, his chief of staff, said Friday.
