At the San Francisco Convention and Visitor Bureau luncheon Tuesday, Mayor Gavin Newsom applauded the businesses community for keeping San Francisco on the map nationally even during the historic recession.
He noted that The City remained the No. 1. destination spot in the United States for the 17th year in a row. “Eat your heart out New York City,” Newsom said drawing applause.
The mayor then ticked off a few statistics, proudly reminding the crowd that more than $7.8 billion was spent in the San Francisco last year, while the city and county of San Francisco supported 66,837 jobs. That, he said, translated into $1.86 billion in payroll last year, Newsom said.
