Since he was already up early morning Sunday with baby Montana, Mayor Gavin Newsom made a last minute decision to jump into the annual Bay to Breakers race.
He confessed Monday that he was sore, and still bitter that he was six seconds behind his desired goal; he wouldn’t dare say how long the 7.2-mile run took him.
“I’m not happy about my personal time,” the mayor said. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
It’s been three years since the mayor ran in Bay to Breakers, Newsom said. No training and no preparation was put into this year’s run and the occasional walk along the course, Newsom said.
“I was shocked – I didn’t think I’d get more than two miles and walk,” Newsom said. “But I finished it.”
