New president, vice president appointed to Rec and Park Commission

The unanimous vote is in and it’s final. A new commissioner replaced President Jim Lazarus on the Recreation and Park Commission during his second day on the job.

Lazarus had expressed interest in leaving the commission and then announced his resignation last week after Mayor Newsom’s Office found Mark Buell to replace his spot on the commission.

Buell, a retired real state developer who sits on several boards, and his wife, are major contributors to political causes and civic charities — including Newsom’s gubernatorial campaign — and have significant ties to The City, Lazarus said.

It’s not common for a new commissioner to go straight to president.
However Buell assured commissioners he will put his heart and soul into the job.

Commissioners also unanimously voted to appoint Tom Harrison, who was first appointed by Newsom’s office in 2004, as the vice president. — Kamala Kelkar
