New environment job comes with a catch

The Environment Commission is searching for a new executive director with the departure of Jared Blumenfeld, and there’s a catch for the new hire.

Come January 2012, a new mayor will represent San Francisco and while there is no formal requirement that department heads resign for the new administration, it has been the practice of some new mayors to request letter of resignations from all sitting board members and commissioners (the department head serves at the pleasure of the commission.) That means those applying to be the head of the Department of Environment will have no guaranteed job come January 2012.

Whoever is hired would earn between $131,000 to $167,000 a year, although there is a possibility of a salary range of 5 percent more.
