Nope, it’s not the aftereffects of that bender you indulged in last night. The bike rack really is swaying sideways like a crazy funhouse version of itself.
The winners of a bike rack design contest have installed a few of their designs around City Hall and Market Street. The contest was organized by the Bicycle Coalition as part of a planning process for Treasure Island. The racks had to use the square-tube steel that most standard bike racks around town use, but other than that had leeway to design away.
Among the winners is a rack that looks windblown, another that forms the shape of Treasure Island, and a third in the form of a wave.
