New BART cars unveiled
BART unveiled a full-size model of its future train cars Monday morning. John Garnham, project director of the Fleet of the Future initiative, showcased major changes in both technology and aesthetics that are being implemented to make the cars more comfortable and efficient. Improvements included bike racks and digital screens offering information about the transit system, which do not currently exist on trains. Test cars are scheduled to arrive in 2015, and production of the actual cars begins the following year. The public can view the model at the MacArthur station in Oakland from 2 to 7 p.m. through Friday.
