Mustachioed group jumps on the Ed Lee bandwagon

Endorsements are sprouting everywhere for San Francisco's Interim Mayor Ed Lee.

Giants star closer Brian Wilson and ‘90s parachute-pants sensation MC Hammer teamed up with local lyricist Ashkon to rap the masses into submission.

Northern California's previously most eligible bachelor Gavin Newsom gives the 'stache the thumbs up. And of course there are those rabid "Ed Heads" setting up shop across Chinatown, helping the box-checking-challenged with their ballots.

However, Wednesday brings Lee's hairiest consideration yet: The American Mustache Institute.

According to a blog by the AMI staff, the institute's administration is considering endorsing Lee's run for mayor.

“We are inclined to support Interim Mayor Lee as his position as a Mustached American leader of a great city like San Francisco has the potential to influence young people of Mustached American heritage everywhere,” said Dr. Abraham Jonas Froman, chief executive officer of AMI.

As the leader of an organization dedicated to the advocacy of "Mustached American education," Froman believes Lee to be in sync with its objectives. Potential conflict, however, may crop up due to AMI's stance on ending "discrimination against the global flavor-saving movement" and the "fear the 'stache" slogan Ed Heads have adopted.

Regardless, hopping on the Lee train may be a smart move for the upper lip movement. Lee's mustache has garnered as much attention as the man himself, with numerous Twitter accounts and stories dedicated to its bristling glory.

“We like the platform, we appreciate his commitment to the lower nose garden, and the video speaks for itself,” Froman added. “It’s a process, but we are hopeful, and of course, 38 percent better looking."

Only time will tell which way the nose will blow on this one.
