For the 14th consecutive year of complimentary service, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency asks that people refrain from tagging their Clipper cards.
Muni service overnight Tuesday between the Embarcadero and West Portal stations will be extended to 4 a.m. and until 2:15 a.m. up to 4th and King streets.
Extra service from 1 a.m. until 5 a.m. will be provided on the 5-Fulton, 14-Mission, 22-Fillmore, 25-Divisadero, 38-Geary, 90-Owl, 91-Owl, L-Taraval Owl and N-Judah Owl bus routes. Additional 1-California service will be available towards downtown from 9:40 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. and outbound from 10:10 p.m. to 1:40 a.m.
Meanwhile, on New Year’s Eve, BART will run extra trains and its normal weekday evening service schedule through 3 a.m. Wednesday. To ease platform crowding at its busiest stations — Embarcadero, Montgomery and West Oakland — BART will operate a skip-stop pattern with modifications from previous years. Heading into downtown after 8 p.m., the Pittsburg-Bay Point and Richmond lines will not stop at the Embarcadero station, while the Dublin-Pleasanton and Fremont lines will not stop at the Montgomery station and the Millbrae-Daly City line will stop at Montgomery.
The city-sponsored fireworks show at midnight south of the Ferry Building is expected to cause delays to motorists in the area from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m., though no closures or re-routes are planned, according to SFMTA.
BART passengers leaving downtown after midnight, bound for Pittsburg-Bay Point and Richmond, must board at Montgomery, while riders on the Dublin-Pleasanton and Fremont lines must board at Embarcadero. Trains bound for Millbrae and Daly City after midnight will board at Montgomery and make all subsequent stops.
