Missouri gubernatorial hopeful owes state more than $35,000 from campaign fund

Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a likely 2012 Republican candidate for governor, will use campaign funds to repay the state $35,050 for more than 329 nights at St. Louis hotels since 2006. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that some hotel stays occurred when Kinder attended sporting events, society galas and a tea party rally. Kinder said he was legally entitled to the reimbursements but would repay the state to demonstrate a “going-above-and-beyond-what’s-required effort” to use state resources prudently.
