San Francisco planning officials are holding an open-house meeting this evening to discuss a plan to add more public spaces and improve transit effectiveness along the city's Mission Street corridor.
The Mission Street Public Life Plan open house, hosted by the city's planning department, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at City College of San Francisco's Mission Campus at 1125 Valencia St.
The department is seeking input from the public on the plan, which would encourage increased activity on Mission Street between Van Ness Avenue and Randall Street by adding public spaces, art installations and new opportunities for businesses.
The city is also considering changes to the layout of Mission Street to improve transit travel times, particularly for Muni's 14-Mission bus line.
Among the proposed options is to convert some parking spots to tow-away zones during peak periods and to change the curbside lanes to transit-only lanes to allow buses to move more quickly.
