Mayor Ed Lee on Wednesday ended months of speculation when he appointed District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu to lead the vacant Office of the Assessor-Recorder.
Chu, a former budget analyst who was first appointed to the Board of Supervisors in 2007, will be sworn in by March 4.
In the meantime, more City Hall speculation unfolds — Lee must now appoint Chu’s successor. Chu will not be sworn in as Assessor-Recorder until a successor is named.
Chu succeeds former Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting, who in November was elected to the state Assembly. Both that office and District 4 supervisor have been held by Chinese-American politicians in recent years.
