There have been several calls for Mayor Ed Lee to run in November because he’s already been so, well, mayoral. But on Tuesday he’s acting more like a head of state.
Lee is attending a fundraiser luncheon with first lady Michelle Obama at the Merchant’s Exchange Building. Though the motorcade for the first lady should be much smaller than the president’s was back in May, we won’t hold our breath to find out how much it costs San Francisco taxpayers.
Later, Lee will be having dinner with Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, according to Lee’s spokeswoman Christine Falvey. We’re told the burgeoning democracy is planning on setting up some diplomatic roots in San Francisco.
And here’s a fun fact: Investment banker Richard Blum, husband of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, is an honorary consul to Mongolia.
