Man threatens to jump from building, Market Street briefly shut down

A section of San Francisco’s Market Street was shut down Monday morning because of a man who was threatening to jump from a high-rise building.

Police responded at about 10:20 a.m. to the 600 block of Market Street, where the man was threatening to jump from the top of a 10-story building, police and fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

Police shut down Market Street in both directions between Second and Third streets, Talmadge said.

The man came off the ledge at about 11:10 a.m. and was detained for psychiatric evaluation, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

Market Street reopened a few minutes later.
