A man was stabbed in the torso in an attempted robbery in the Sunset district on Tuesday, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The victim was approached by two suspects near 25th Avenue and Ortega Street about 8:45 p.m. when one of them demanded the victim’s cash.

The victim refused and one of the crooks stabbed him in the torso, police said. The victim was able to push himself away from the crooks and fled. They too fled the scene, Shyy said. The victim then walked to the 1700 block of Noriega to seek assistance at a drug store. The employee at the store called 911 but the victim had left before police arrived.

The victim then reportedly met a friend at 19th Avenue and Judah Street who drove him to the hospital. His injuries were not life threatening.

No arrests were made and there was no detailed description of the suspects as of Wednesday, Shyy said.
