A man was shot in the arm on seedy Sixth Street early this morning, police said, but not by a needle.

The 56-year-old man told police he was sitting in front of a hotel in the 100 block of Sixth Street, which is between Mission and Folsom streets, when he heard a gunshot and then felt the bullet hit him.

The victim said he didn’t know the shooter. A suspect description was not immediately available.

He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, police said, and is expected to survive. No arrest has been reported.
