A man was detained for questioning in connection with the suspicious death of a dermatologist in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco, police said Monday.

Elias Michael, 47, was found dead by police in his high-rise apartment at 2030 Vallejo St. about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. Officers were called to the scene on reports of a body.

Michael’s death was deemed suspicious by the Medical Examiner’s Office, and homicide detectives are investigating the case, Shyy said. Police would not say how Michael died. An autopsy will be conducted to make that determination.

Police detained a man for questioning about 10 a.m. Monday, Shyy said. That man was believed to be either Michael’s roommate or someone who was staying with Michael, Officer Albie Esparza said. It also was believed that an older female relative lived with Michael.

Michael worked as a dermatologist at Union Street Dermatology, according to the company’s website. Media outlets reported that the office is closed Mondays.
