A man was pistol-whipped and robbed in the Tenderloin on Sunday night after he actually offered money to the thugs who assaulted him, police said.
The 25-year-old victim was walking east on Eddy Street near Leavenworth about 11:45 p.m. when a man in his 30s rode up on a BMX-style bike and asked the victim for money, police said. The victim pulled some change out of his pocket but that wasn't enough apparently for the BMX bandit, who proceeded to pull out a pistol and hit the victim in the head with it.
While the victim was down, the suspect and two others rifled through the victim's pockets, taking his cellphone and wallet before fleeing east on Eddy Street, police said. The other two suspects were described by police as a woman in her 40s and a man in his 60s.
The victim received treatment for his nonlife-threatening injuries at the scene and no arrests have been made.
