A man was assaulted with a two-by-four after confronting alleged drug dealers with a hammer in the Tenderloin early Tuesday morning, police said.

The 38-year-old victim told police he observed drug dealers hanging out in the 800 block of Larkin Street about 12:45 a.m. and he confronted one of them with a hammer, police said.

The suspect then hit the victim in the face with a two-by-four before fleeing.

The victim sustained a cut to his face but refused medical attention, police said.
