A man was critically injured in hit-and-run in the South of Market area on Sunday, police said, but he is expected to survive.

The victim, aged 25 to 30, was crossing the street in the area of 10th and Division streets about 2:45 a.m. when he was struck by a white Volkswagen Passat, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries that at the time were said to be life threatening, but as of Monday morning, his condition has improved, although he remains in the hospital, Esparza said.

As of Monday morning, no arrest has been made, Esparza said, but investigators will be interviewing the victim and checking the area of the incident for any surveillance footage that may assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is encouraged to call police at (415) 575-4444 or text at TIP411 with "SFPD" at the beginning of the message.
