Phat Lam, 32, of San Francisco faces one felony count of drunken driving and causing injury, and one felony count of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher and causing injury, as well as two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, Bastian said.
Lam was allegedly involved in a strange encounter with a 50-year-old man who had reportedly been loitering at the gas station that Lam and a passenger had pulled into to fix a flat tire. It was unclear after the incident what the men may have said to each other.
At one point, however, the 50-year-old man had either collapsed or lain down behind Lam’s vehicle and was struck by a tire, suffering severe head trauma, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Lam was arrested at the scene. He remains in custody on $103,000 bail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He is scheduled to be in court at the Hall of Justice today for arraignment at 1:30 p.m., Bastian said.
