A man was beaten unconscious in a brazen Mission district robbery early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 46-year-old victim was walking near 22nd and Mission streets at about 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday when five hooligans attacked him, police said. The victim was hit numerous times in the head until he was knocked out.

After the assault, the crooks  stole the man's wallet and cellphone and fled, police said. They were described by police as Hispanic men in their 20s.
