Man arrested in fatal San Francisco hit and run

A speeding drunken driver's horrific rampage early Friday killed a 55-year-old man, damaged four parked cars at various locations and pummeled a planter box outside St. Mary’s Medical Center, police said.

The unidentified pedestrian was struck in the 300 block of Masonic Avenue, between Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Boulevard, around 2:30 p.m., police said.

Police detained the suspected driver Jose Jimenez, 23, of San Francisco, after the crash near St. Mary’s, a short distance from where the pedestrian was killed.

A cab driver called police after spotting the body.

The suspect was hospitalized after the crash, police said.

The driver allegedly crashed into parked cars at Fell and Clayton streets and on Shrader Street, police spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.
