  • A man was arrested Monday for reportedly lighting another man's mattress on fire and assaulting that man with a rather large rock.

He went from holding a rock to a hard place: jail.

A man was arrested for arson and assault with a deadly weapon in the Design District area on Monday after he allegedly lit a mattress on fire and tried to hit another man with a boulder, police Sgt. Eric O'Neal said.

The incident occurred outside in the 1000 block of 7th Street just before 7 p.m., O'Neal said.

The suspect, 44-year-old Leslie Solorzano of San Francisco, reportedly set the victim's mattress on fire. The 49-year-old victim then called police and confronted the suspect.

During the course of their argument, Solorzano is alleged to have thrown several small rocks at the victim, O'Neal said. The victim was able to dodge the rocks for a bit but then fell on the ground. Once he was on the ground, police say Solorzano picked up a "30 pound boulder" and allegedly attempted to slam it down on the victim -- twice.

The victim was able to dodge the attack and Solorzano reportedly fled the scene. He was later apprehended by police and arrested.
