Carlos Guzmangarza, 49, the San Francisco man accused of posing as a doctor and performing a cheap liposuction, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony charges of practicing medicine without a license, assault, false impersonation, and identity and grand theft. Guzmangarza remains in custody on $750,000 bail, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors allege that in early 2010, Guzmangarza took $3,000 from a woman and performed liposuction in his office. During the surgery, he allegedly smoked a cigar and made the woman hold an IV bag, then came to her home days later with 6 pounds of fat he had removed and dumped it down her toilet. The woman had to be treated for an infection and needed corrective surgery, prosecutors said.
