Major BART delays for East Bay-bound trains due to faulty axle

A faulty axle on a train headed to Richmond is causing delays of about 20 minutes on BART trains going from San Francisco to the East Bay, a spokesman said.

The equipment problem was reported at about 3:35 p.m. on a Richmond-bound train that was near the Montgomery station in San Francisco, BART spokesman Jim Allison.

Passengers were taken off the train at the Montgomery station. Crews responded and were in the process of getting the train out of the way as of 3:55 p.m., Allison said.

The problem is causing delays of up to 20 minutes on East Bay-bound trains, he said.
