Local fellowship winner committed to community

Lily Wong, a 25-year-old San Francisco resident and Pepperdine University student, received the Millennium Momentum Fellowship, which includes a $3,000 scholarship and one year of private mentorship by elected officials.

Why did you apply for the scholarship? Because the scholarship itself is for people committed to the community.

When did you first become active in San Francisco?
I’ve been trying to change my community since I was 13.

What has your interest been?
I’m specifically interested in education policy.

Why education policy? Without funding and proper teachers and equipment, students cannot succeed.

What kind of projects have you been a part of in San Francisco? Most recently, I was a youth coordinator in Chinatown.

Do you plan on coming back to San Francisco after you finish college?
I want to come back to San Francisco ... but I’m not sure where I want to end up.
