Suicide net a Pandora's box
Excuse me -- have bridges become the new cash cows for politician spending of taxes and toll payers money? If the suicide net for the Golden Gate Bridge has an estimated cost of $76 million, how much would it be next for adding a suicide net to the Bay Bridge?
The number of suicides yearly on the Golden Gate Bridge pales in comparison to the number of persons jumping in front of Muni and BART vehicles, which no longer have people catchers mounted on the front.
Perhaps if Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, and Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, entered figures into their computers to figure how many tens of thousand dollars of tax and toll money per suicide would cost the people, they could come up with a lower cost per suicide per victim, and the amount of other hard-working persons money they are only too willing to spend.
