If the Exploratorium relocates to piers 15 to 17 along The Embarcadero by 2012, perhaps its former location at the Palace of Fine Arts would be ideal for the San Francisco History Museum.
The History Museum’s planned site in the Old Mint at Fifth and Mission streets is indeed historic, given its service during the Gold Rush and well into the latter 20th century. But getting the $100 million needed to refurbish the Old Mint could be impossible, given these tough times. And downtown parking is always a major inconvenience.
In contrast, the Palace of Fine Arts is near the Presidio National Park entrance, Crissy Field and Marina Green. People could just stroll over.

Your Nov. 5 story “Homeless ignore outreach efforts” shows that San Francisco does not have a homeless problem. It has a vagrancy problem, and we need to start treating it as such. We should not have to surrender our parks and other public spaces to chronic vagrants who then make these facilities unusable.
We need a Board of Supervisors that will say living in our city parks and other public spaces is unacceptable and if you refuse help, violating vagrancy laws will send you to jail.

On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists killed 2,974 Americans in an attack on our country that made worldwide headlines. What did not make headlines during the same month was that 3,750 American citizens were killed by the corporate greed of insurance companies denying health care to our fellow American citizens.
Our country has experienced a 9/11 every month for years — 45,000 Americans dying yearly to make big profits for the insurance companies that give big contributions to Congress to deny single-payer health care for all Americans.

As far as I remember, Caltrain committed to have two bicycle cars on Bullet Train 383, which I frequently take with my bike after work at 6:46 p.m. from Menlo Park.
However, for the last few months 383 mostly had just one car. It is packed and very inconvenient, and cyclists are getting bumped again.
Caltrain 383 is a very busy commuter run. It absolutely needs two bike cars every evening, without exception.
