Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has commentary on Huffington Post, of all places, announcing -- surprise! -- more funding of green jobs:
Just weeks after taking office, President Obama signed the historic Recovery Act and this Administration has taken bold steps to break the back of this recession. The Department of Labor moved quickly to protect workers who lost their jobs and provided new worker training opportunities for those looking to upgrade their skills. And as we help workers through these challenging times, our real focus is investing in their future and today I announced nearly $100 million in green jobs training grants. These grants are part of a larger Recovery Act initiative -- totaling $500 million -- to fund workforce development projects promoting economic growth by preparing workers for careers in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries.
One, is Huffington Post really the appropriate venue for government announcements such as this? Aside from the extreme partisanship of the site, I'll just note some of the stories being highlighted next to Solis' announcement: "Nude Model Goes Un-Airbrushed On Marie Claire Cover (PHOTO)"; "Tila Tequila Mourns Her Dead Fiancee Casey Johnson";and my personal favorite, "Kate Gosselin's Hair Extensions - How Bad Are They?"
Two, unemployment is in double digits and it seems like "more green jobs" is the only economic answer Democrats have these days. And current administration is relentlessly pushing them, oblivious to the fact that almost all green jobs efforts so far have been a huge bust.
