Kudos: Get out and vote at Stonestown

Here's a chance for Bay Area teens to prove that they have greater concerns than nonstop shopping and texting — in a reall mall, no less.

On Aug. 23 and 24, from noon to 6 p.m. in its center court, Stonestown Galleria will be hosting UR Votes Count, which not only registers anyone over 18 to vote, but allows kids under that age to cast “votes” on nationwide issues, even their choice for president of the United States.

The economy, the environment, national security — all are fair-game topics in this straw poll. And each voter gets an instant prize, plus a chance to win a $100 Discover gift card.

And at the end of UR Votes Counts’ six-week tour (which begins this week in Glendale with an appearance by Disney Channel star Selena Gomez), three national winners will be announced, with third place getting a fall wardrobe package; second place nabbing a laptop-and-flatscreen entertainment package; and the winning ballot receiving a $5,000 shopping spree.

The Stonestown Galleria is located at 3251 20th Ave., San Francisco. For details, visit www.urvotescount.com.
