We have an heir! Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to a boy Monday in London. The announcement did not include a name for the future monarch, though one is expected to be announced in the next few days.
Kate reportedly went through a “natural” birth, and the 8-pound, 6-ounce boy was born at 4:24 p.m. BST. Prince William also was present to see his child born.
It’s ironic that a royal would choose the natural-birth path, since centuries of horrible obstetrics and medieval medicine prematurely laid to waste many an heir -- not to mention royal mothers who regularly died as a result of having a baby (RIP Elizabeth of York, Jane Seymour, Princess Charlotte, et al.).
Middleton was apparently in good hands, though, despite being accused of being “too posh to push.” The baby was even delivered by the Queen’s own OB/GYN, which should create an image in your head that will be hard to remove … dreadfully sorry for that.
