Ariya Jutanugarn continued her march toward a second straight U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship by routing Ji Eun Baik 6 and 5 in the first round of match play at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old Jutanugarn, who won medalist honors after finishing the two rounds of stroke play with the best score, will meet Katelyn Dambaugh in today’s round of 32.

Lydia Ko, the No. 1-ranked junior girls’ golfer in the world out of New Zealand, also made quick work of her opponent Wednesday, topping Mikayla Harmon 7 and 6. Ko draws Hee Wook Choi in her next match today.

Annie Park and Jordan Ferreira, who earned the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds for match play, respectively, both were upset in their matches.

Park fell to Julia Beck 4 and 3, while Ferreira went down at the hands of Rinko Mitsunaga 3 and 2.

Match play continues throughout the week and culminates with the championship match Saturday.
