Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona has been placed on baseball's restricted list following his arrest for false identity.
Carmona was arrested last week in the Dominican Republic on charges he falsified his name and birthdate to play in the U.S. Authorities in his homeland say his real name is Roberto Hernandez Heredia and that he's 31 — three years older than the Indians believed.
With him on the restricted list, the Indians don't have to count him toward their 25- or 40-man rosters and he won't be paid until he reports.
Carmona is scheduled to make $7 million this season.
Earlier this week, Indians manager Manny Acta said the team was doing all it can to help Carmona, who has had an erratic career since winning 19 games in 2007.
