A suburban Chicago man who accidently shot himself with a nail gun says he thought doctors were joking. But they assured him the X-ray was real: A nail was lodged in the middle of his brain.
Dante Autullo was recovering Friday after undergoing surgery at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where doctors removed the 3 1/4-inch nail. It had come within millimeters from the part of the brain that controls motor function.
Autullo says he thought doctors were joking when they showed him the X-ray, which clearly shows a nail lodged in the middle of his head.
Autullo says he thought he'd simply knocked the nail gun into his head Tuesday as he built a shed. It wasn't until the next day, when he felt sick, that his fiancée suggested he go to a hospital.
