Unfortunately, Lifetime’s “House of Versace” is not such a film. The ads for it looked god-awful, with Gina Gershon camping about dressed as Donatella Versace in a bad blond wig and spouting an even worse Italian accent, sucking up cocaine like some Medellin Cartel vacuum cleaner, but the final result was just as gnarly.
The New York Times roundly dissed the pic, noting awesome dialogue like, “His dresses look like last week’s ciabatta!” According to the New York Post, a strange mix of celebs turned up at the MoMa this weekend for a screening, however: Susan Lucci, Alan Cumming, Michael Stipe, The Edge from U2 and Gerard Butler, all folks who apparently had nothing better to do in the Big Apple. By the way, the real House of Versace has “denounced” the movie, calling it unauthorized and emphasizing that they had nothing to do with it.
If only Lifetime could say the same thing.
