Hospitals ban child visitors

Children under the age of 16 will not be allowed to visit patients at the four California Pacific Medical Center campuses in The City due to the highly contagious swine flu. Pacific, California, Davies and St. Luke’s are beginning the policy immediately, it was announced Tuesday.

“This is a decision we are taking reluctantly,” CPMC said in a statement. “However, we feel that with the number of cases of H1N1 flu rising, it is a necessary step to protect the health and safety of our patients and our staff.”

Children under 16 are among the most susceptible to the virus and most likely to pass it along.

“As with all things to do with H1N1, we will reconsider this policy if we see a change in the spread of the virus so that we are no longer at heightened alert status.”
