Homeless man injured by explosive device in Tenderloin trashcan

  • A 55-year-old homeless man was injured by an explosive device inside a trash can on Friday.

A homeless man was injured by an explosive device in the Tenderloin on Friday, police said.

The 55-year-old victim was looking in a garbage can for recyclables at Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street about 1:30 p.m. when an unknown device inside the can exploded.

The victim was hospitalized for his injuries, which police said were not life threatening.

The bomb squad and fire department responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
