When Porter Deese began renovating an 1893 Alamo Square bed-and-breakfast as his home, he had a different type of hotel inspiration for its heart, the bathroom. Now, troubled by repeat surgeries, he’s ready for a smaller pad, leaving 847 Fillmore St. on the market for a fan of steam and spa.

"The feeling is really one of relaxed luxury and abundance. That’s the feeling … at the end of the day in a hotel room I’ve always found most relaxing," said Deese, who imports architectural antiquities and has stayed in fine hotels throughout Europe and Asia.

The end result is a "bicycle built for two" of a bathroom, Reese said: double-shower-headed European open shower, two-person sunken spa tub with hot water jets and its own water heater, in-shower bench with foot bath, two oversized Kohler sinks and stone tiles and floors.

"The surround of the tub actually has areas where you can sit or lay. One if the great things in Asia is that when you get out of their deep hot tubs, you’ll lay on cool stone," Deese said.

Realtor Paul Barbagelata is understandably marketing 847 Fillmore St. as a "complete retreat." But there is room for more than just the lucky denizens of the master suite, making it a potential family home or legal two-unit building.

The kitchen is also done on a grand scale, like the bathroom. It hasa 12-burner Viking range, two dishwashers, a trash compactor, an island that seats six, a breakfast room and direct access to the media room.
