Mitt Romney might have had the Koch brothers, but President Barack Obama had Hollywood, and that’s a mighty powerful ally.
Millions were raised by the industry’s heavy hitters, and now The Hollywood Reporter has examined what his victory means to Tinseltown.
First, there’s the Stop Online Piracy Act, which entertainment honchos adamantly support. So far, Obama has sided with Silicon Valley and those who oppose more digital restrictions, but the big donors to his campaign in L.A. aren’t going to let him off so easily.
Meanwhile, prominent liberals such as Sean Penn and Martin Sheen will no doubt continue to apply pressure about Guantanamo Bay, which the prez promised to close during his first term but has yet to do.
Finally, environmentalists such as Robert Redford and Disney executive Alan Horn are going to expect the president to follow through on all of his green promises as well.
“He recognizes that his agenda hasn’t fully been fulfilled yet,” Democratic political consultant Rick Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter. “By the end of his second term, he will have made good on all his promises.”
It’s important to remember, though, that Hollywood’s main product is make-believe.
In the wake of Obama’s victory, Trumpty Dumpty not only had a great fall, but his head completely exploded, leaving shards of orange detritus and gray matter all over Manhattan.
New York magazine gave Donald Trump the Most Unhinged Conservative Award for his election night Twitter rants, many of which the mogul took down after posting. NBC newsman Brian Williams also weighed in on the air.
“Donald Trump, who has driven well past the last exit to relevance and veered into something closer to irresponsible here, is tweeting tonight.”
Trump got back at Williams in no less than four tweets, saying, “Brian--Thanks dummy--I picked up 70,000 twitter followers yesterday alone.”
Other celebs responded on Twitter to the Donald. “You trust the voters when they choose ‘The Apprentice.’ But not now?” wrote Alec Baldwin. “Modern Family” executive producer Steve Levitan also added, “Hey Trump, did you see Mitt Romney’s concession speech? That’s what graciousness and good hair looks like.” Ouch.
