Hit-and-run victim, 4, may have broken foot; police seek suspect

A four-year-old boy was hospitalized Tuesday after an unknown driver ran over his foot and took off.

The boy was playing about 4:45 p.m. in front of his home near the corner of Halsey and Douglas avenues.

His parents were home at the time, but they were not in front of the house with him and his slightly older cousin, Redwood City Fire Capt. Rick Franchi said.

Franchi, who said it was unclear whether the boy was in the sidewalk or on the street, said he was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment.

"He’ll be fine," Franchi said. "There’s a chance his foot is broken, but he’ll be OK."

Authorities are still on the lookout for the car, described by the boy’s cousin as a red, four-door compact car. The California Highway Patrol is handling the case, Redwood City Sgt. Steve Dowden said.
