TLC’s breakout reality-TV hit “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” may exemplify Mitt Romney’s 47 percent, but the self-admitted “redneck family” is inching ever closer to being in the 1 percent.
Sure, they may live in a hog-wallow in Georgia, and Alana Thompson’s 17-year-old sister might have just given birth to a baby with two thumbs on the same hand, but the clan is looking to double its salary for the second season.
Granted, that will only bring the price of each episode up to $8,000 — a comparatively paltry sum when you look at the well-compensated “Jersey Shore” crew. But that’s still more than enough to install a cee-ment pond in the backyard.
We always knew that behind those smoldering eyes and sheepish grin lurked the heart of a madman. The New York Post reports that “Today” host Matt Lauer has been losing it behind the scenes, ripping into employees and cracking the whip due to falling ratings.
Apparently the show’s rival for the “vodka-in-the-Nescafé” set — women who watch TV in the morning — is kicking his show’s butt.
“Good Morning America” has come out ahead three weeks in a row. Staffers are apparently “banned” from even mentioning “GMA,” or any words that contain those letters (OK, maybe not that far).
It’s Lauer’s Stalingrad, and he ain’t going quietly. “Matt’s turned into an anchor animal,” said a source. “It’s a huge problem.”
Dr. Phil McGraw featured a former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant, Jael Strauss, in the throes of a bad meth addiction on his show last week. A few other contestants have come forward and wished her well, including CariDee English, who won the title in 2006.
English used the “comments” section of the Gawker site to wish Strauss a healthy recovery. She also made digs at the “ANTM” enterprise.
“Mentally, it’s horrific,” she wrote. “And any girl who has been on ANTM can back me up. … No one wants to take us serious as models. Even though we just were named ‘TOP,’ our place in line at Fashion World was at the bottom.”
Here’s a hint: If your competition involves singing the line, “Pot Ledom is Top Model spelled backwards,” you may be in the wrong place.
