Helicopter crashes, killing occupants

A flight instructor and his student were killed Friday morning in Alameda County after the helicopter they were piloting struck power lines.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims or determined if it was the instructor or the student controlling the helicopter at the time of the crash, which occurred at 12:30 a.m. near Livermore.

The helicopter, registered to Atherton-based co-operation Quadrus Inc., ignited after hitting power lines and crashing in a nearby field, according to Federal Aviation Association spokesman Ian Gregor.
