Was Crystal Harris’ split from Hugh Hefner supposed to be a calculated stunt for cash? According to Page Six, they broke up the weekend before the wedding only because she couldn’t score a deal for an even more last-minute split.
“Crystal wanted to ditch Hef at the altar,” a source said. “Her plan was to walk up the aisle and say she couldn’t go through with it. The wedding was to be filmed for a reality special, and her refusal to marry him would be sensation.
“She was looking for a tie-in deal of around $500,000 for the exclusive ‘I ditched Hef at the altar’ interview. While there was interest, Crystal didn’t get an offer anywhere near half a million.”
The Playboy magazine model is said to have been sneaking around with her songwriting partner, Jordan McGraw (Dr. Phil’s son). The pair got close at Chateau Marmont in March. But her rep said such scuttlebutt is “total fiction” and “it was an amicable breakup.”
Meanwhile, TMZ sources said Crystal flew the coop because the “couple hundred dollar” allowance Hef gave her was unsatisfactory, and because she’s all about launching her music career.
The blonde evidently believed she “couldn’t be married to Hef and have a successful music career.”
Crystal herself spoke to Ryan Seacrest about the split Wednesday, explaining, “For a while, I’ve been having second thoughts about everything. I haven’t really been at peace with myself lately. I didn’t think it was really fair to him.”
She said Hef “understood — we both agreed that it wasn’t the best idea to get married.”
Funny how she got cold feet the day before her first single dropped.
Troubled “Teen Mom” Amber Portwood was hospitalized following a reported suicide attempt Tuesday.
Police in Anderson, Ind., confirmed that they responded to a call at a residence in the 1300 block of Pleasant Meadow Drive. According to the caller, 21-year-old Amber was depressed and threatening to end her life.
The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was taken to a local medical facility for further evaluation.
According to a Star magazine source, it was baby-daddy Gary Shirley’s mother who placed the 911 call.
When police arrived, the source said, they “found her faceup on the couch and immediately called for an ambulance. When two EMT workers arrived, they removed the rope that Amber had loosely knotted around her neck. They tried speaking with her, but she was in and out of consciousness and couldn’t respond; she was just moaning. They gave her an oxygen mask, put her on a gurney and rushed her to the hospital.”
Amber’s brother told E! she “had a panic attack” after Gary was verbally abusive and threatened to take their daughter, Leah, away from her. The couple have had a turbulent history — Amber was infamously arrested for allegedly assaulting Gary.
Maybe it’s best for these two just to call it quits for good?
Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kris Humphries is not likely to be a low-key affair. The couple have already set an over-the-top tone with their registry at Gearys of Beverly Hills — the value of the loot on their wish list totals a jaw-dropping $172,000.
Stuff the bride-to-be and her groom are coveting includes such basic nesting necessities as a $1,650 coffeepot, two $840 crystal ashtrays and a $7,850 vase.
Sheesh. With her mega-bucks, can’t Kim buy her own tchotchkes?
