Police are hunting for a gunman who opened fire on a Caltrain train that was passing through the Potrero Hill neighborhood Monday.

Officers were called to Pennsylvania Avenue and Mariposa Street about 7:30 p.m. and met with several witnesses to the shooting. The witnesses told cops they saw a man standing on the overpass with some kind of firearm, police said, and he was shooting at the train.

“After shooting at the train, the suspect was seen placing his gun into a bag and walking away from the scene,” the Bayview Police Station reported.

Cops searched for injured victims but did not find any. The train sustained no damage, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said. No passengers were aboard at the time.

Shell casings were recovered from the scene, police said.

The suspect has not been found. Police said on Wednesday that the incident is under investigation.
