Two lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge are closed as work crews remove loose asphalt from the highway.
The Golden Gate Bridge District closed the bridge’s two middle southbound lanes at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning after newly paved asphalt started to unravel, leaving large pebbles on the road’s surface.
Authorities said a sweeper arrived on scene at 11:15 a.m. to clean up the debris, but it is unclear when the lanes will re-open.
The district repaved the bridge’s two western lanes Monday night as part of the seismic retrofit project and the asphalt started coming loose on the lanes’ eastern edges during this morning’s commute.
Authorities said they are trying to have the road cleaned up before today’s afternoon commute.
